From contradiction to beauty

from Susanne

A person’s inner self only becomes alive, meaningful and expressive when it is characterized by contradictions. Martin Schleske allows the reader to participate in these contrasts.

“Spiritual powerlessness and authority”, for example, form a pair of opposing concepts that do not seem to fit together at first glance. In everyday life, we often feel powerless in many moments. Problems and difficulties lie in our path like huge boulders and there seems to be no one there to help remove them. But it is precisely this inability to accomplish everything ourselves that is ultimately the best way to seek help from God, the epitome of authority. “Praying with expectation” and then acting and not simply “praying your way out” is what makes powerlessness and authority a complementary power package.

“If we succumb to the temptation to dissolve tensions that serve the inner growth of our lives, we will inevitably trivialize our existence.”

According to Martin Schleske, the same applies to “allowing and shaping”. Life cannot be shaped with the help of prefabricated templates and patterns. Allowing something to turn out differently than I had imagined is the secret to creating something much more valuable. Am I allowing everything to turn out completely differently than I had imagined? What has often become of our dreams and fantasies? Martin Schleske clearly shows that it is precisely the “disruptions” in life that are the truly significant moments. Ultimately, it is important to create something new, unexpected and surprising from this and not to stick obsessively to the tried and tested.

The author takes us into further pairs of opposites that are thought-provoking. Here is just a small foretaste: “Listening and doing”, “You are and you shall!” and many more that we discover here together.
