Deggendorf offers countless routes - from the flat plain along the Danube or the Isar floodplains to steep climbs and downhill descents. There is something for everyone and we have collected some of them here.
A short tour on quiet roads or cycle paths. Most of the elevation gain comes at the end through the detour in Neuhausen. If this is too much for you, you can simply take a shortcut to Metten (same way back).
Ideal for a short ride in between or in the evening after work on the road bike.
Medium cycle tour: Deggendorf-Süd
Length: 65 km Ascent: 150 m
Once through the flat Isar plain. A tour on quiet roads, suitable for city, touring or racing bikes. Hardly any inclines on the way there. After the turning point near Landau an der Isar, the route leads back to Deggendorf over gentle hills on side roads – with the approaching mountains always in view.
A nice tour for a weekend day (or for ski & bike during the week – that’s where it originally came from) 🙂
Medium MTB tour: Deggendorf-Grafling
Length: 28 km Ascent: 750 m
Would you like some terrain? On the ridge, an easy dirt road (gravel or mountain bike recommended) leads over two medium gradients to Grafling. If you have had enough there, you can simply take the cycle path parallel to the road back to Deggendorf. Everyone else climbs back up towards Rohrmünz and then decides whether to take the road (to the right) or the downhill route to the left via Rohrmünz and Hochoberndorf.
A trekking or gravel bike is also sufficient up to Rohrmünz. The downhill route via Hochoberndorf should only be tackled with MTBs with suspension and a little experience.
Easy MTB tour: Ruselabsatz-Geißkopf
Length: 20 km Ascent: 440 m
If you don’t want to drive all the way up from Deggendorf, you can start from Rusel-Absatz for a short tour. Parking spaces are available.
Take a break at Landshuter Haus to enjoy the view. If that’s enough for you, you can head straight back – otherwise there’s a short round trip to the Geißkopf (bike park) with a viewing tower.
The suggested route is very beautiful, but requires a mountain bike. Otherwise, you can also follow the wide dirt road to the Geißkopf (signposted).
Medium MTB tour: Deggendorf-Ruselabsatz
Length: 30 km Ascent: 780 m
Beautiful MTB tour with enough incline, but without being too technically difficult. Water can be refilled at Ruselabsatz. Afterwards, it’s an easy descent via Rohrmünz to the road and then a short stretch of dirt road back to Deggendorf.
Of course, you can also take the technically more challenging descent via the Hochoberndorf transmitter instead of the road.
Difficult MTB tour: Deggendorf-Geißkopf
Length: 42 km Ascent: 1130m
The full program: beautiful, technical climbs through the forest up to the downhill route on the Geißkopf (which you can of course also take with you if you want). We recommend a basic level of fitness and an MTB – ideally with full suspension. The reward is shady summer trails on winding paths through the Bavarian Forest.
If you wish, you can shorten the route at Landshuter-Haus and then make your way back.
